A nice weekend in Bangkok and again and “Strong” GAS squad showed up (at least in weight) at Harrows for the yearly wordcup competition of the Vets. Only players with German Passport this time could play for the Vets and looking for the others and the casual team anyhow nearly everbody was injured, good luck to you guys.

With matt the Cat in goal, Wolfgang, Markus (our new Phuket signee), and Roland in defense, Gerd and Raphael as well as Kelly (“die Wade”) in midfield and later on Richard and Ralf the Legend as forward we has a nice team and even the President helped out.
The first game in the group stages we won by a nice freekick of the Legend against the French over 45 (here we have to say that they were able to have 8 players on the pitch against 7 of us) by 1:0. The second game against  Thai Siam we lost in the last minute 1:0 before the heavy rain started. The next two games we had to play against the team of Kamerun and the “ladies team” of Japan.
In a water war we lost against the team from Kamerun by 0:2, here we even missed a penalty from ….., we are team we loose and win together. Against the girls we won 5:1, actually 5:2 as each goal of them count double and the funny ??? thing here was, that our goalie Matt the Cat decided to go into half time even before it started and they could kick a free kick into the empty goal. Seems the long journey over the weekend also took some of his brain away (is there one?).
So because of one goal we did not make it into the cup devision and went into the shield devision. All on the golie? No :)) some other players also had their lets call it times on the pitch this day. Anyhow the spirit of the team was not broken and in the first game we won in penalty shoot out againt United Nation team, where our golie showed his confidence and saved 4 out of 5 penalties. Next game was again Southern Hemisphere again on the “water pitch” and penalty shoot out after 13 min. came up again and slightly the darkness of the day also took over the tournament. So after 10 penalties approx. the organizer decide to throw the coin and we won. So final in the shield cup and again Matze went for the right color of the coin throw and German won the Shield cup and came in 9th place of the tournament out of 20 teams!!!
Great success and great fun over the weekend, excellent fighting team and silverware home in Germany. Ole Ole OIe Ole we are …..
Thanks to all the team, the supporters and to the diving school,……

  1. celebrate your 2nd grade silverware my dear Germans. Lucky for you that there haven’t been any little Swiss …

  2. I have not seen a Swiss team there – question is why – maybe fear – to battle with real men

  3. 1. we are not so much into throwing coins. We only count coins.
    2. real men? … (think) … (look at the picture above) … (think again)

  4. strowing coins is not the strength of the GAS Vets team. But to show up as a team, also older then other teams, of course havier than other teams (German food is havy and healthy), to fight until the sun went down. This is our strength. The coins supported the strong! No offence to anybody. The picture shows real men ! I’m proud to be part of them.

  5. Very true. A good example of the 3 different generations of GAS players are the 3 different kits on display.
